Birthing a New Ministry
I was tremendously moved some twenty-eight years ago when I first heard Rev. Terry Cole-Whittaker quote Ernest Holmes who said, “There is a power for good in the universe and you can use it.” These words helped launch my rebirth and ongoing transformation—the life-long exfoliation of my mind, soul and eyes! Today I “see” this “Power for good” less as something for me to "use" for my good and more as my guide and inspiration to be a greater expression of the All Good.
My journey has been both divinely inspired and circuitous. I first caught the vision of birthing a ministry that begins in Emeryville, in my last year of ministerial school, several months after my mother passed. At first I was thrilled and inspired by my clarity of purpose. In pretty short order, I abandoned my vision and chose another option. I committed to this alternative as if it was my only option and did my best to be a full contributor. In the long run, it was not to be and when I began visioning again, virtually immediately, the same vision was again revealed. I came face to face with the realization that no one can live my life vision for me. If I don’t live it, it will go unlived.
Clearly, I didn’t fully believe in God as me. To better understand my beliefs, I’ve learned to study my life. And I have found that it truly is done unto me as I believe. Over time I succumbed to doubt and questioned how well I’d fare in my own ministry. In truth, there is a power and a Presence, which responds to us so completely, so perfectly, that I am still amazed when I honor this Truth in my life. But the thing is: It can only operate for me by operating through me. I have to believe FIRST!
